Maui selfie — They call me kmf because they don’t know how to pronounce my name.

A former hockey mom entering my fifth year as an emptynester, I resigned from corporate life after 25+ years as a journalist, corporate communications manager, writer and editor. I enjoyed my travel gap year in 2019 (perfect timing) as a travel blogger where I focused my energy on two of my passions: writing and traveling – emptynester, family, solo and girlfriend getaways. Recent life change: One of my freelance clients offered me a full-time job where I can work remotely so I’m now a modified digital nomad.

My favorite travel niches that I blog about are day hikes, Minnesota state parks (just finished exploring all 66 of them), beach destinations, Mexico (I’ve traveled to both coasts of Mexico and two of its islands 27 times over the past 30 years), historical homes, walking tours, day hikes, Ebensee, Austria concentration camp (documenting my husband’s grandfather’s life – a concentration camp survivor), Minnesota staycations (I only live 18 miles from America’s largest mall, Mall of America and less than three hours from the beautiful North Shore of Lake Superior).

I’ve been microblogging about my travel adventures on social media for more than a decade so love sharing my travel knowledge and travel tips and inspire others to make memories around the world or in your own backyard (or with a good book).

I’m all about the experience with my husband, my son, my family and friends, but equally love my #beachbookbeer solo trips to recharge, as well as my quest for the best adult mac and cheese. I also post book reviews and am fascinated by cemeteries and trees so you’ll see a lot of photos of those on my social accounts especially.
