A travel blogger’s favorite Valentine’s Day gift ideas

While I’m all about the chocolate and flowers are nice, I much prefer meaningful and practical gifts that support my passions – like reading, hiking and traveling. Here are a few of my favorite travel and hiking gift ideas for Valentine’s Day.

Best Valentine’s Day gift idea: Friends Virtual Tour from On Location Tours

Central Perk coffee mug and coffee in a package
Your Friends Virtual Tour box comes with cool accessories that you’ll be prompted to use while traveling through New York City to all the best Friends filming locations – including this cute Central Perk coffee mug and latte mix.

I love visiting filming locations of my favorite TV shows and movies. One of my favorite trips was to the Game of Thrones filming location for Dragonstone in San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Spain (a day trip from Madrid).

Since gifting a trip to Spain at the moment is probably not an option for most folks, I highly recommend On Location Tours’ Friends Virtual Tour Package. On Location Tours gifted me this virtual tour package of one of my favorite TV shows, Friends, and I love it! It is the perfect gift for Friends fans on your gift list – for Valentine’s Day or birthdays, just because or maybe even gift this fun On Location Tours Friends Virtual Tour Package to yourself! While I will receive a small commission (at no cost to you) if you choose to purchase this Friends Virtual Tour from On Location Tours, I only recommend products and services I would use or try myself. And I highly recommend this virtual tour – in fact, I’m going to take this tour again!

What’s included in the Friends Virtual Tour from On Location Tours?

The 40-minute virtual tour from On Location Tours features 18 locations from the Friends TV show. And it is so fun to see where everything was filmed (or wasn’t filmed) and loved all the fun facts and trivia questions. With the purchase of a ticket, the recipient receives a special Friends box shipped to their home address (currently only available to U.S. domestic addresses*).

The Friends Virtual Tour Box contains several surprise items that are essential to the tour, including a really cool Central Perk mug. And your Valentine will receive exclusive admission to On Location Tours’ virtual Friends trivia night where she or he can test their knowledge about their favorite TV show. I learned so many cool trivia facts about Friends…so fun!

*You can order the Friends Virtual Tour Package for international addresses, which will include the tour and trivia night (without the boxed items). Two price packages: The Tour + Trivia Package (no goodie box) for $29, and the Tour + Trivia + Goodie Box (which only ships to U.S. addresses) for $68.

New York City skyline
View of the New York City skyline from one of the best places to visit in the Big Apple: Central Park

On a semi-related note: When you do get the opportunity to visit New York City, make sure you check out Central Park (several Friends filming locations nearby) – it’s my favorite place in the Big Apple and it’s never the same experience twice. See my one-day itinerary: Top things to do in Central Park.

Citylogue scratch-off poster

poster in a tube with a globe and Christmas floral arrangement

I collaborated with Been There Done That recently and they gifted me the coolest scratch-off poster. Part bucket list, part travel journal, the Citylogue scratch off poster features 100 of the world’s most beautiful cities. It comes with a scratch-off pick, fun stickers and an area to give your own rating. You can even order a frame to make this a special gift for your wanderlust Valentine. I absolutely love mine!

Packable hats for hiking, travel and staycations – perfect Valentine’s Day gifts

I love hats; in fact, when I travel, it’s usually my go-to souvenir – again, I’m all about fun and practical gifts. Here are two of my favorite hats that would make perfect Valentine’s Day gifts for the hiker or traveler on your list.

Woman wearing a navy hat standing in front of an evergreen tree

Tenth Street Hats gifted me this beautiful navy blue Santorini Greek fisherman’s cap in exchange for an honest review. I only recommend products and services that I use or would try myself. And I absolutely love this hat. This hat is well-made with a wool blend and a satin lining – and it’s easy to pack. And don’t worry about not getting the right size. Tenth Street Hats has an easy-to-use sizing chart online.

Woman wearing a baseball hat that reads Bad Hair Day standing on a bluff overlooking Mississippi River

If your Valentine is more casual, then I recommend this Bad Hair Day baseball cap – it is my go-to hat in the summer and early fall. And I get asked a lot where I purchased mine (available on Amazon) – and they come in a variety of colors. I love it so much, I bought two – one in olive green and one in black. And I wore them frequently while on my Minnesota State Park Challenge (hiking all 66 state parks).

Travel-themed socks make the best Valentine’s Day gifts

Socks? Yes! Socks make the perfect Valentine’s Day gift. And there are so many fun travel-themed socks and Valetine’s Day heart socks. And make a romantic night of it by cuddling up with your Valentine in front of the fireplace with a new pair of warm and cozy socks.

Valentine’s day gift idea for the hiker: Fleece-lined leggings

Since my quest for hiking all Minnesota state parks is also happening in the winter (see my top things to do in the winter post), I’m all about being warm. Receiving a pair of fleece-lined leggings is another way to say I Love You this Valentine’s Day – I guarantee it’s a perfect gift for the traveler or hiker on your list. I also love that they have a slash pocket to hold your phone.

Another perfect Valentine’s Day gift idea for the hiker: Winter hiking boots

I actually received a pair of these winter hiking boots as a Christmas gift: Columbia Women’s Bugaboot Plus Iv Omni-Heat Snow Boot (they also come in white/eve and black/sunset red). It gets super cold in Minnesota and these keep my feet warm and dry. In fact, last week I went chasing some frozen waterfalls and my toes did not get cold once. And I accidentally stepped into a slush puddle. While I love socks, I hate wet ones. But these winter hiking boots did not let in a single drop of water – and they were great with traction on the snow and ice. I highly recommend these Columbia boots as a practical Valentine’s Day gift.

Trekking walking pole on snow and a pair of snow boots

And make it a package deal for the hiker on your Valentine’s Day list with trekking poles

I love my new TrailBuddy trekking poles (you can see a glimpse of one in the previous image). These hiking sticks are collapsible, adjustable, lightweight and come with a pair of connectors, mud baskets and snow baskets. While not suitable for skiing, I have heard they’re great for light snowshoeing also. Get yourself a pair also, select a favorite state park near you and make a Valentine’s Day hike part of your date.

Romantic Valentine’s Day gift idea: picnic backpack for two

Check out this super cute picnic backpack for two – a perfect gift idea for Valentine’s Day. Also buy a bottle of wine and head to your local park for a romantic picnic. If you’re in Minnesota or other frigid areas, arrange the fleece blanket (included) in front of the fireplace for a romantic night in. This picnic backpack also includes a cooler compartment, a detachable bottle/wine holder and cutlery.

Show your love with Love Pop Valentine’s Day cards

I’m a huge fan of Love Pop cards for all occasions – and they feature several Valentine’s Day themed cards to express your love.

Anyone else a fan of Sanders dark chocolate sea salt caramels? My niece just gifted me these. I may or may not share.

Stylish and Harry Potter-themed masks make perfect gifts throughout the year

Purple beaded face mask
Face masks are pretty much mandated everywhere you go so you may as well be stylish. Check out my niece’s handmade face masks on her Anyse Fashion Etsy shop.

Speaking of my thoughtful niece, check out her Etsy site – Anyse Fashion – for some pretty face masks (even glow-in-the-dark Harry Potter themed ones), specialty gowns and handmade garments. Some of the masks, like the one pictured above, were made from our grandmother’s fabric – love that Grandma June’s legacy lives on.
