I am beyond excited to receive a nomination for the Liebster Award from one of my peers, Lori, who is the author of the travel blog Serendipity On Purpose

While I’ve been writing professionally for nearly three decades, I launched my new travel and lifestyle blog, kmfiswriting, only two months ago. It’s exciting and a little scary to try something different. And it’s also a little isolating so am very thankful for my blogging community – they offer so much support and I learn something new from them every day.

A little bit about me – I’m all about the experience

Game of Thrones Dragonstone Filming Location
My solo trip to Madrid, Spain in May 2019 included a day trip to hike to the top of a Game of Thrones filming location (Dragonstone), San Juan de Gaztelugatxe.

Earlier this year, I resigned from the corporate life after 25+ years as a journalist, writer, editor, and corporate communications manager to take a blind leap of faith to try something different. Something that combines my love of writing, traveling and reading.* And that something was launching my travel and lifestyle blog, kmfiswriting, in April.

I’ve been microblogging about my travel adventures on social media for more than a decade so am excited to share my latest adventures, destination inspirations, travel tips and vacation deals with a larger community.

*Other passions: Doxie mom, family, friends, the beach, Minnesota Vikings, adult mac and cheese, eliminating evil Styrofoam.

Questions from Lori

What is your dream job, and why?
I’m kinda living my dream right now – writing and traveling. My first love is writing fiction so my ultimate dream job is to become a published novelist.

In what ways would you like to make a difference in the world?
Making a difference in the world begins with connection, becoming part of a community and belonging to something bigger than yourself. And I believe travel is one of the best gifts we can give ourselves and our children – it’s an opportunity to discover new worlds and a new you, appreciate cultural differences, yet realize we are more alike than different. Through sharing my experiences, I hope to inspire others to discover those new worlds – something meaningful about themselves and others so they can make a difference.

What does joy look like for you, and what activities do you engage in to feel joy?
The smallest of moments bring me the greatest joy: a sunny day (especially on the beach), listening to my son and husband play guitar together, a great book that makes me think differently, a great book that doesn’t make me think at all, good conversation, day hikes, a baby’s laugh, lilacs in the spring, my miniature dachshund sleeping on my lap, exploring new places, lobster mac and cheese.

What do you do to stay healthy, both physically and emotionally?
This one has been a struggle for me the past few months as I’ve been focusing most of my waking (and should-be-sleeping) hours on launching and managing kmfiswriting as well as another travel-related venture. But lack of sleep, nutrition, exercise and water is not sustainable for a healthy life. Starting Monday (seriously), my goal is to sleep more, drink more (water), eat better, exercise more consistently, laugh more, read more, work less, worry less.

What is one trip you would like to take, but seems out of your reach, and why?
I think with the proper motivation, discipline, planning and saving you can take any trip. One of my travel bucket list destinations is the Maldives. Waking up every morning in an over-the-water bungalow would be the ultimate getaway to paradise. It’s a little out of my reach currently (money and time), but is an experience that is achievable and I look forward to sharing my experience with others.

My Liebster Award nominees

I am grateful for so many bloggers who inspire and support me every day. Here are just a few who are worthy for this recognition. And if these are duplicate nominations, I won’t be surprised. I didn’t see any rules about double-dipping so hoping you’ll accept my nomination.

Briana from The Mompreneur Journey – a place for moms, entrepreneurs and travel enthusiasts. Love following Briana’s travel getaways with her two young daughters. Check out her most recent experience in Maine.

Heather from Life At My Own Pace. She’s an attorney, online health and fitness coach, a runner and marathoner, and Disney fanatic who enjoys traveling with her family and sharing her adventures. Love her tagline: Choose to make the rest of your life your best life.

Julie from How We Find Happy. The name alone should entice you to follow. Julie and her family are Michigan transplants currently living in Florida. Not only do they enjoy travel and Disney, but they are also big fans of Marvel, Star Wars, breweries, and Michigan football.

Roshida with Shida’s On the Loose: If you’re thinking about taking a mid-career gap year or living your own kind of dream, then follow Shida’s on the Loose for practical tips on how to make it a reality (she recently moved to Mexico City). I find all her posts, especially her videos, inspiring.

Hera with Travoodie: If you’re a foodie who loves luxury travel, then I recommend following Hera and her husband on Travoodie. I’m always adding her experiences to my own travel bucket list.
